Today did not disappoint in real life or on Twitter! We celebrated the 2019 International Day of the Girl by taking over the Today Show plaza and the United Nations to elevate the voices of girls all over the world. Together, we can ensure that the fight for girls’ rights is #WithGirlsForGirls! Ten of our country’s most outstanding young female activists—the 2019 National Gold Award Girl Scouts—were in attendance along with delegates representing girls from around the world, delivering some “mic drop moments.” The Twittersphere also blessed us with an abundance of phenomenal tweets from the event.
We need to foster respect for youth leaders. We need to create safe spaces for girls to talk about their experiences and hone their skills. We need girl-centered leadership experiences. 📣 #IDG2019 #GirlsSpkOut #WithGirlsForGirls #gsGoldAward #GIRLagenda pic.twitter.com/H07Reku2JP— Girl Scouts (@girlscouts) October 11, 2019

I know the world is a mess right now but following Girl Scouts on social media and reading about all the Gold Awards that have been earned this year is definitely a bright spot. https://t.co/IdyqWfWOtd— Caitlín Rosberg (@crosberg) October 11, 2019
“In the U.S. 84% of native women will experience violence in their lifetimes—rates 10x higher than the national average. It is time to tell the stories that are not being told.” #gsGoldAward Girl Scout Isabella #WithGirlsForGirls #IDG2019 #GirlsSpeakOut pic.twitter.com/IbYp5mPREj— Girl Scouts (@girlscouts) October 11, 2019
“Calling myself a feminist at ten years of living, because this world, our world, needs everyone to fight for it!” Watch girls sharing stories from around the world! https://t.co/xX9shkA42b #IDG2019 #girlsspkout #WithGirlsForGirls— DayoftheGirlSummit (@IDG_Summit) October 11, 2019

My wish for this #DayoftheGirl is that we work urgently for a new #GenerationEquality, to end the circumstances that currently limit the world’s least privileged children, & give our full support to the movements that allow them all to flourish. https://t.co/W0hnerQbUg pic.twitter.com/g6vuabQEVk— Phumzile Mlambo (@phumzileunwomen) October 11, 2019

Girls’ rights should not be a political agenda. Girls’ rights are human rights. #IDG2019 #GirlsSpkOut #WithGirlsForGirls pic.twitter.com/oBvVOMxLxe— Girl Scouts (@girlscouts) October 11, 2019
Every girl deserves to be respected. Girls are strong. Girls are intelligent. Girls are the future. #IDG2019 #GirlsSpkOut #WithGirlsForGirls pic.twitter.com/lIMJRuOeFb— Girl Scouts (@girlscouts) October 11, 2019
@NGOWGG Girl Advocate Riya reminds us only 44% of people have access to clean bathrooms and risks are higher for girls. Sanitation isn’t a privilege, it’s a right! If girls are denied their health right, they will not have a life to live! #girlsspkout #IDG2019 #WithGirlsForGirls pic.twitter.com/4rSi0av8nq— DayoftheGirlSummit (@IDG_Summit) October 11, 2019
A special 'thank you' goes to Microsoft for collaborating with us to inspire more girls to pursue their passions and to our National Gold Award Girl Scout scholarship funders, Kappa Delta Foundation, Arconic Foundation, and Susan Bulkeley Butler, for investing in girl leaders.
Microsoft is a premier sponsor of the 2019 National Gold Award Girl Scout celebration, a night dedicated to honoring the accomplishments of ten Girl Scouts who created innovative and sustainable solutions for today’s most pressing issues. On October 11, at 7:15 pm EST, Microsoft will host the event at its flagship store in New York City and livestream it to its other stores across the country.
