Girl Scouts Lauren Covert and Michala Jarvis of Troop 30676
recently earned their Silver Awards with their Take Action project “A Twist on
Recycling.” After discovering that plastic lids, such as those from water
bottles or peanut butter jars, were not recyclable or biodegradable, they
decided they had to do something to keep them from filling up our landfills.
Determined to help the
environment, Lauren and Michala worked hard to collect a variety of lids
throughout their community. Then using a portion of their cookie earnings, they
created a beautiful mural that is now on display in the children’s section of
their local library. The girls also used this mural to teach children about the
importance of recycling and leaving behind a smaller footprint.
