World
Thinking Day was established in 1926. It is in honor of Lord Robert
Baden-Powell, the Founder of Scouting, and Lady Olave Baden-Powell, the World
Chief Guide of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout Movement, whose birthdays were both on
February 22nd. It is a day when Girl Scouts think of other members of the World
Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. In 1947, the year this postcard was
published, Girl Scouts were engaged in helping their fellow Scouts in the
aftermath of World War II. Programs included Schoolmates Overseas, in which
girls would pack international friendship bags filled with school supplies for
their sisters in scouting, and making Girl Scouting accessible for displaced
persons internationally.
