When I give money to a charity I don't expect, nor do I demand a product in return. Cookies do great things! If you don't like them, donate a box to another charity. I'm sure our military would be happy to receive a box.... and I don't think they would complain about how many it contained.

My co-worker brought in a box of thin mint cookies the other day and BOY was I appalled! 28 cookies per box in 2010 but in 2009 there were 44 per box. I am outraged. I have not bought any cookies this year nor do I plan on in the future. You are ripping people off! Your sales are going to go way down because of this. Did you think we would not notice the smaller boxes? I will be giving my money to a more worthy charity this year. Did you know that 90% of sales of Girl Scout Cookies goes in the President's pocket? Do the research and Wake up, people. Put your hard earned money elsewhere. SCAM!!!!

One important part of proper nutrition is to teach our children to not consume any trans fats. The National Association of Sciences has concluded there is no safe level of trans fat consumption. While the Girl Scouts have worked with the bakeries to reduce the trans fats in their cookies, you can see in the ingredients that there is still partially hydrogenated shortening and other fats in the cookies. While it must be below .5 g/serving, a couple of servings of cookies or a serving a day until the box is gone is still a lot of trans fats for our children and their families to safely consume. There are plenty of bakeries that can make excellent cookies without trans fats. Paul Newman's cookies, for example, are 100% trans fat free. I, for one, have bought my last box of cookies from the Girl Scouts until they demand that their bakers make the products 100% trans fat free.

I'm excited about Girl Scouts and what they teach and offer. Judith, if you with your daughter don't agree with something you're hearing or seeing, YOU teach her the right way...ultimately its your responsibility to guide your child. Girl Scout cookies are a Good Thing. (of course,in moderation)

Love it!

And proper nutrition is knowing how to eat in moderation. If we teach girls that cookies are evil and having a single cookie will make them obese, give them diabetes, and make their teeth turn purple, we're doing them as much of a disservice as if we tell them a sleeve of Thin Mints is a single serving.
