Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!

In May we celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, which honors the achievements and contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

In that spirit, we’re recognizing the most go-getting, innovating, risk-taking, and leading Asian Pacific American women who have enriched our country’s past and future. Check out our FacebookTwitter, and Instagram accounts all month long to get inspired by these amazing women, including actor Auli’i Cravalho, politician Elaine Chao, Girl Scout alums Lisa Ling and Tammy Duckworth, and more!

Athlete. Olympian. Advocate. G.I.R.L.

Michelle Kwan is one of the most celebrated women in the history of figure skating and she's an advocate ensuring that all athletes, regardless of gender or ability, are able to participate in sports.

Author. Musician. Advocate. G.I.R.L.

Readers know Amy Tan through her award-winning novels, but her endeavors go beyond the page. She's helped raise millions of dollars for literacy and founded a nonprofit to help children with Lyme disease.

Transportation secretary. Political leader. G.I.R.L.

Elaine Chao's résumé boasts a long list of accomplishments—including the impressive fact that she’s served in the White House under four presidents. The current U.S. Secretary of Transportation believes that giving back is a way of honoring those who helped her.

Artist. Designer. Architect. Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. G.I.R.L.

Though not everyone knows her name, more than 5 million people annually visit Maya Lin’s most recognizable project: the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC. Naturally curious, Maya infuses her passion for nature into her work and often urges viewers to think about landscape and the environment.

All of these incredible role models rally us to be the best we can and to give back to our chosen fields, our communities, and future generations. Join us in applauding all they’ve given us and praising the legacies they’ve already made and continue to create.
