Alabama's FOX 10 TV reports that Mobile area Girl Scouts marked the organization's centennial anniversary by “rocking” Mobile this weekend. Over 600 participants attended events aimed at exploring the historical, cultural and environmental culture of Mobile.
One of the focuses of the event was on the Girl Scouts environmental preservation initiative called Forever Green. Program Planning Manager Mary Anne Brutkiewicz said encouraging the scouts to be eco-friendly has always been a focus in the organization.
"This is very timely," she said. “Girl Scouts has always been involved in helping to better the environment."
Toward that goal, the Scouts took part in an Eco-Cruise on Mobile Bay and an Eco-Fair which featured a number of environmental organizations and businesses at Cooper Riverside Park.
Girl Scout Tori Dahlgren said she was excited to learn about going green at the event but that wasn't the most exciting part to her.
“I’m most excited about meeting new people and making new friends,” she said.
